Report of Parent-Teacher Meet on 22/02/2020

A Parent Teachers meeting was organised by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) on 22/02/2020 in the College auditorium, SKNMC, Pune between 2.00pm to 5.30 pm. This meeting was conducted for I st year MBBS 2019-2020 batch.

Officer on special duty Dr. Dileep Kadam, Dean and the Chairperson of PTA Dr. Shalini Sardesai, Vice-chairperson of PTA Dr. Ajay Naik, Deputy Dean (UG section) Dr. Nitin Joshi, Deputy Dean (PG section) Dr. Sachin Wankhede, Secretory of PTA Dr. Sanjana Nemade, PTA members Dr. (Col) P.S. Chawla and Dr. Ruth Joshi graced the dais. All Head of departments of the Ist MBBS, all mentors of the batch 2019-2020, parents and students.

Welcome address and introductory speech was proposed by the secretory of PTA Dr. Sanjana Nemade. She displayed the college and hospital facilities provided to students and explained how the institute offers the best possible learning environment to students.

Dr Nitin Joshi elaborated the student’s code of conduct. He briefed the academic calendar for the batch 2019-2020, competency based curriculum, white coat ceremony, various competitions organised for the students. He also displayed the attendance record and the student’s performance in the internal assessment. He insisted on disciplinary measures to be followed by students.

Officer on special duty Dr. Dileep Kadam, Dean and the Chairperson of PTA Dr. Shalini Sardesai emphasise to students and parents that regular non-attendence can severely disrupt learning and affects the student’s performance badly. Discipline should be maintained inside and outside the hostel and institute premises. Consumption/possession of alcohol, smoking or use of tobacco, narcotic drugs and the related products are strictly banned in the hostel and institutional premises. Movement register in the hostel should be signed during entry and exit. Violation of the rules will be treated as serious offense resulting in strict disciplinary action. Dean Dr. Shalini Sardesai also explained the university norms for attendance (Cumulative attendance minimum 75% for theory and 80% for practical). These attendance norms are to be strictly enforced and is the prerequisite for appearing for university examinations.

Dr. Sharmishtha Deshpande, the In-charge of Student’s counselling cell, explained the importance of early detection of signs and symptoms of depression amongst students and to seek help at the earliest.

Dr.(Col) P.S. Chawla shared the details of mentorship program and the Student’s grievance committee. The ratio of 1:7 for mentor: mentee is followed and the role of mentor is explained.

Dr. Sachin Wankhede gave the details of Anti-ragging move and he motivated students to report the ragging incidences to the anti-ragging committee. He also described the co-curricular activities for the students.

Dr. Ajay Naik asked for any suggestions by parents. The parents gave a very positive feedback regarding the activities and facilities provided by the college.

The following suggestions were received:

1. Parents requested to start breakfast in the mess.
2. Security measures in the hostel should be improved.
3. Student’s attendance and internal assessment performance should be conveyed to parents periodically.

Officer on special duty Dr. Dileep Kadam ensured all parents that breakfast facility will be provided in the mess in near future. The in time and out time register is already being maintained in the hostel as well as in the library. Security guards are also available all the time. However their duty schedules and performance will be rechecked.

Dean Dr. Shalini Sardesai informed all parents about the LMS (Learning management system) software with facility of parent notifications about their ward’s attendance and performance. Till then, the notifications will be sent via mail to all parents.

Dr. Ruth Joshi expressed the words of gratitude.

Distribution and collection of Parent feedback forms was carried out for feedback analysis. This was followed by refreshment and a very cordial interactive session between the teachers, parents and students regarding performance of the students.
