Department Of Respiratory Medicine

On 4th January, 2022, Dept of Respiratory Medicine SKNMC had organized an event in collaboration with Narayan Hrudayalaya, Bangalore to felicitate and celebrate the 1 year anniversary and success story of a post bilateral lung transplant recipient for Sarcoidosis.

The patient was first brought to our department in 2017 for mild symptoms. Then, was properly evaluated and investigated in 2018 and diagnosed as Sarcoidosis(granulomatous lung disease). She was dependent on oxygen since 2019. She had 2 exacerbations till 2020 and got admitted for her most severe exacerbation in Dec 2020. In Dec 2020, after treating her acute exacerbation and after tiding over her crisis, the decision was taken to refer her to Narayana Hrudayalaya Bangalore, headed by Dr. Devi Shetty. She underwent a b/l lung transplant in Jan 2021 and this Jan 2022, she successfully completed 1 year.

Patient was felicitated by our respected Dean Dr. Krishnakant Patil Sir. The patient, her daughter and her doctor relative shared their experiences of the journey, expressed their gratitude towards our institution, doctors and nursing staff for treating her. They thanked the NH team(surgeons and transplant coordinators) for their moral support, financial aid and post-op care to make such a high risk and costly operation feasible and successful. The NH team was represented by Dr. Basha Khan(transplant head), Dr. Julius, Dr. Syed, Uma sister(transplant coordinator and counsellor) and they shared their experiences via a Zoom meeting.

The event concluded on an emotional note as a vote of thanks was given by Dr. Himanshu Pophale, HOD Respiratory Medicine
