On the occasion of World AIDS Day and Human Rights Day, Department of Microbiology, Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College & General Hospital, had organized a program on 10th December 2019 at college auditorium. This occasion was graced by honorable Dr. D. B. Kadam (Officer on Special Duty), Dr. Shalini Sardesai (Dean), Mr. Prasad Sonawane ( District Program Officer from District AIDS Prevention & Control Unit ), Chief guest Miss Chandani (President Nirbhaya Organization).
HIV-AIDS awareness was created through the exhibition, poster presentation, and information education & communication material display.
The World Health Organization (WHO) theme of this year on World AIDS Day – Communities make the difference, was clearly projected through the rangoli displayed at the most crowded area in hospital to create awareness amongst people.
All the dignitaries were welcomed by Head of the Department Microbiology, Dr. Sachin Wankhede. He talked on the purpose of celebration of World AIDS Day every year since 2011 in SKNMC & GH.
An open interview with transgender was taken by Dr. Sachin Wankhede to understand the various moral, ethical, psychosocial issues associated with them in the community. The session was very interactive and the audience participated actively by asking questions to the guest.
A Maharashtrian folk dance was performed by Mr. Mahindra Bansode which was much appreciated by the audience.
Dr. D. B. Kadam addressed to the audience in his speech that HIV infection is a chronic manageable disease and the HIV infected people should not be discriminated in the community. He also added that PLHIV ( People Living with HIV ) deserve all human rights.
The program concluded with the vote of thanks to the dignitaries, and audience.
