It is with a heavy heart, during this pandemic, that I communicate with you regarding our activities during the year 2020 and till date.

The first confirmed case of corona virus in Maharashtra was reported on 9 March 2020 in Pune, and our institute has been actively involved as a Dedicated Covid Hospital, since 30 March 2020, to manage covid 19 patients. We have allocated 402 beds exclusively for care of the covid patients and 30 ICU beds which includes 18 beds with ventilators and 180 beds with O2. We also have established a NABL accredited and ICMR approved molecular biology Lab in Sep 2020 and have been conducting RT PCR and Rapid Antigen Tests. Till date about 5000 RT PCR tests and 4000 Rapid Antigen Tests have been conducted

Till date we have treated 2925 covid cases. We have also managed post covid complications and 31 cases of mucormycosis are presently undergoing treatment in the institute and 25 requiring surgery have been managed by the multidisciplinary surgical teams.

We have also been providing counselling services to the relatives of the patients to keep them updated on the condition of their patients.

Our dedicated team of doctors have worked tirelessly to give their best to the corona affected. All out efforts are being made to provide the best available treatment. The institute has been able to vaccinate all the health care workers against Covid.

The institute is also a covid vaccination Centre since 16 March 2021 and has successfully vaccinated about 7000 eligible beneficiaries till date.

However inspite of our involvement in management of the pandemic we never lost focus on the academic activities for the students. We successfully continued the academic activities online fully utilising the available technology for the same. We also carried out clinical postings for the final year students and successfully conducted the Final MBBS examinations as per the university guidelines and achieved a pass percentage of 95%.

In addition to these activities we also organised various online CMEs, Webinars on relevant issues and also conducted an online Annual National conference of the Research Society of the institute.

All this has been possible because of the vision and able guidance of our Founder President Hon. Prof M.N. Navale and Founder Secretary Dr. (Mrs.) Sunanda M. Navale and the efforts of the dedicated team of Doctors, Nurses, paramedical staff, MPWs and supporting staff of the Institute to whom I owe my gratitude.
