Foreword
It is with immense pleasure that I pen my message as Dean of Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College. I feel deeply honoured to be associated with a vibrant Institute that has, proven its pre-eminence and uniqueness by blending medical, and public health sciences under a single institutional framework.
The institute has flourished and attained new benchmarks in the year 2019.
Like the previous years, this year also the achievements of the students and staff members have been encouraging. In addition to academics, our students have excelled in the fields of sports, cultural and other extra-curricular activities as well and secured positions in the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. Quite a few Interns have applied for and done their apprenticeship in the USA.
Continuing Medical Education and Research and faculty development has been a major thrust during the year and will continue to do so. A number of National and International CMEs, conferences and workshops were organised during the year. The institute successfully conducted the first national conference of the Research society in February 2020, paving the path for innovative research in the field of medicine. We have various ongoing research projects, in collaboration with ICMR and AYUSH.
The institute now has 150 MCI recognised UG seats since May 2019. We have 100 MCI permitted postgraduate seats per year. The Institute remains committed to the conception and implementation of innovative post-graduate training courses in all specialties.
SKNMCGH has provided free of cost services to all patients for 10 years and even at the present day we provide state of art medical care at minimal cost. The hospital has a total bed strength of 1044 including non-teaching beds. During the year 2019 the hospital attended to about 466423 outdoor patients and 31065 inpatients and has conducted 15812 surgeries. Also, various government schemes including MJPJAY, PMJAY, CGHS have been started this year and are effectively implemented for maximum benefit of the patients.
The institute has obtained Pre-Accreditation Entry Level NABH certification on 13 January 2019. SKNMC has been affiliated by MUHS Nasik to conduct MMLSPC course for CHOs (Community Health Officers) who are BAMS, BUMS or BSc Nursing. The first batch of 110 CHOs was started in August 2019 and passed out in March 2020. The CHOs passed from this institute are appointed by District Authorities at various HWCs (Health and Wellness Centres) and are performing a major and remarkable role as front-line COVID-19 workers in the rural sector.
In the face of the present unprecedented COVID 19 pandemic, our institute has emerged as one of the important tertiary care hospitals catering to COVID patients, from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits as well as from nearby villages (Gram Panchayats). We have 402 Isolation beds designated to COVID positive and suspects (180 beds with oxygen supplementation facility and 30 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds). The institute is one of the recognised centre for Management of Mucormycosis patients and also to conduct covid vaccination drive. Till date 7000 citizens are benefited by vaccination in our institute. The institute is among the few institutes authorised by the ICMR for conducting trials of Convalescent Plasma as a treatment modality in COVID.
The Institute has quite an ambitious journey ahead and, inexplicably, lofty pursuits are often fraught with daunting challenges. However, individuals and institutions that are devoutly committed to their calling are bound to succeed, regardless of all the impediments that threaten to eat into their vitals from time to time. I would unhesitatingly say that the best is yet to be for the Institute because it is founded on the sacrosanct principle that service to society is the highest goal of human life. I am also confident that the dedication and support of the staff members would act as a catalyst and catapult the Institute to greater heights in the times to come.
My very best wishes to the Institute in its pursuit of excellence.
