The Radiology Department is well equipped to provide X-ray, Ultrasound, Doppler, Computed tomography, Magnetic resonance imaging and Mammography facilities. The department has established interventional radiology section in 2015 with installation of high end state of the art Siemens Artiz Zee Pure DSA equipment. This is the latest equipment by Siemens, manufactured in 2015 with very few installations across the world. This facility is equipped for performing various vascular and non-vascular therapeutic interventions by minimal invasive methods under image guidance. This has been the next gigantic technical step for imaging department of this Institute.
New static 450mA X-ray machine and three 160mA Mobile X-ray units have been added to the inventory in this year. The Radiology X-ray section is now equipped with six static X-ray equipments, including two units with image intensifiers, nine mobile X-ray units and one mammography unit. Four detector plates have been acquired for static X-ray units. It provides a truly digital system of X-ray acquisition with excellent spatial resolution and superior image quality. It has replaced the use of cassette and significantly reduced the time taken for image processing. The images are ready for viewing in seconds with immediate image access available to the radiologists and clinicians alike. The Computed Radiography (CR) system is available with the mobile X-ray units.
The facilities of X-ray, ultra sonography and color Doppler, CT and MRI are available round the clock to the patients. The Acuson S2000 ultrasound machine has Elsatography, often referred to as virtual palpation. It is used to image tissue elasticity and provides significant clinical benefit in breast, thyroid, liver, prostate and musculoskeletal imaging. Fetal Medicine unit in the department provide genetic counseling, prenatal services and early diagnosis of fetal anomalies with specialized services like fetal echo, target imaging with interventional facilities as and when required. With installation of Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS) in all hospital computers, the clinicians have immediate access to the images of all modalities, at their locations, resulting in better patient management.
The Radiology museum had many visitors. In our endeavor to keep the museum up to date, there have been few additions to the museum including interventional radiology materials, like catheters, guide wires, needles and pacemaker etc. The virtual acrylic model of dark room film processing has been added in the museum, which is motorized to give real time demonstration of the manual film processing.
Two post graduate students have acquired FRCR- Part I qualification and are going to appear for FRCR-Part 2A in March 2016. The Department of Radiology held live workshop of CT and USG guided core biopsy on 27th June 2015 which was conducted by interventional radiologists. The workshop was well attended by delegates from all over Maharashtra.
The aim of this department is to provide holistic imaging needs of the patients without waiting period, including the interventional radiology requirements such that the patient goes back happy and satisfied customer from the department.
