The Department is involved in teaching & training of II MBBS, Physiotherapy & B.Sc. Nursing students through variety of educational modules.
UG Teaching:Theory lectures, practical classes, table work classes, tutorials, group discussions, case studies, students seminars, museum study & drug displays are utilized to impart knowledge & skills in Pharmacology & therapeutics to make the subject more interesting and clinically oriented. Additional teaching learning sessions viz. Museum study, Drug Displays, lectures with demonstration have been arranged to reinforce knowledge of drugs, Students seminars, group discussions have encouraged. active participation from students. The highlights have been introduction of Video lecture sessions for select lecture series & Top News from the Drug World ‘a monthly Notice Board Display of new drug introductions. Field research projects on adverse drug effects have been undertaken by UG students & presented in oral & poster sessions of MediAce UG Research Conference.
PG student training : In addition to regular monthly programmes comprising journal reporting sessions, lectures and seminars conducted by faculty and postgraduate students,. Technique demonstrations & evaluation of drug activity in experimental animals are conducted by PG students .All PG students do a month’s clinical rotation posting in Medicine & allied subjects & undergo a training course in Research Methodology conducted by MUHS. The first batch of PG students cleared the M.D. Pharmacology University Exam of MUHS with 100% pass result. The M.D. Pharmacology course has been recognised by the MUHS following MCI Inspection of the Dept. & conduct of the MD Pharmcology Exam in 2014.
Patient Care : Medicines for indoor & outdoor patients are procured , sotroed & dispensed through the Central Pharmacy & two OPD dispensaries which work under the mangaement of Dr. Radha Yegnanarayan.
Central Animal House
Animal house is one of the most important research units attached to Pharmacology Department. This unit runs under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Radha Yegnanarayan (Professor and HOD, Pharmacology). Veterinary doctor in charge of Animal House assists her in discharging day to day function.
Our Animal House is approved by CPCSEA and has been registered under "Education and Research" with registration No.1061/ac/07/CPCSEA with renewals every 3 yrs.
The present area of the Animal House is 135 mt.sq. It has a total of 8 rooms; of these 4 are for keeping animals. The are further divided into two areas where on one side experimental animals are placed and on the other side nonexperimental animals. Animal House shelters mce ,rats and rabbits .In addition to animal rooms, there is an area for experimentation work with an enclosure for operations. a quarantine room & washing block .
Till date fifteen are project proposals have been approved by IAEC; out of these 8 proposals ongoing, are experiments which are shown to MBBS undergraduate students, Five research projects are presented and published and two are underway.
